The project, promoted by the Ministry of Culture and the City of Milan, is produced by Palazzo Reale, Museo del
Novecento, Grande Brera-Palazzo Citterio, and Gallerie d’Italia, with the publishing house Electa, and is part of the cultural program of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games.
The exhibition Metafisica/Metafisiche, curated by Vincenzo Trione, brings together the masters of Metaphysical Art with their international "heirs" and "students" of the 20th and 21st centuries. It includes the protagonists of the historic group, founded in Ferrara in 1917 with Giorgio de Chirico, Alberto Savinio, Carlo Carrà, Filippo de Pisis, and Giorgio Morandi; and the artists in Europe and US who have been inspired or influenced by the movement's atmosphere, all the way to contemporary echoes encompassing the visual arts, design, fashion, architecture, and comics.
The exhibition will be on display in Milan from January to June 2026 – different venues such as Palazzo Reale, Museo del Novecento, allerie d'Italia, and Palazzo Citterio - it will then travel to Rome to the Galleria Nazionale. The catalogue is published by Electa.
