Picture consisting of a broken (‘first-generation’) 1958 paper Schermo (Screen), mounted in the centre of a wooden frame open at the sides, without glass and with a checked paper background that bears stains and ink marks here and there. Rather than restoring it, Mauri displayed the damaged work in all its transience as a fragile object subject to the passage of time and history. For greater insight into the concept of ‘schermo’ in Mauri’s work, see the introductory essays.
