A black iron plate in the same format and finish as the paintings in Picnic o Il buon soldato (inv. 527), placed horizontally on two trestles to create a small table. Seven military headdresses of different style and origin are neatly arranged on it in two rows. Among the helmets are two metal oil cruets, two pumice-stone bars, and a square piece of paper with an oil stain and a signature, ‘mauri’, in the lower right-hand corner.
