Schermo (Screen) with the same dimensions, workmanship and materials as Schermo 50 from 1959 (inv. 169), ironically entitled Falso (False). The two works were exhibited together at the First Biennial of the Museo Progressivo d’Arte Contemporanea in Leghorn, in the section entitled I paradossi dello specifico (Paradoxes of the Specific): ‘Fabio Mauri […] is here with two works that mirror each other: a 1959 “Schermo” and its doppelganger, “Falso”, from 1973, exploiting the dialectical, suspended ambiguity of a mental, abstract, subtle game.’1 For greater insight into the concept of ‘schermo’ in Mauri’s work, see the introductory essays.
