Porta sacra
2000
PROTRUDING WALL WORKS
OBJECTS
ENGLISH TITLE: Sacred Door
MATERIALS: Wooden door, varnish, gold-plated lock
DIMENSIONS: 235 × 120 × 12 cm
PROVENANCE: The artist
COLLECTION: Fabio Mauri Estate, Rome
CATALOGUE: O_2000_645
NOTE:

An old wooden door, recovered by the artist during a trip to the Siena area, stars in this installation. The poorly preserved surface enamel on the frame was maintained and consolidated using a treatment to stop the natural decaying process. Mauri grafted the lock of the old door from his studio, gold-plated in the process, onto the two leaves. Leaning up against the wall, the leaves spaced slightly apart, Porta sacra presents a threshold and evokes a trapdoor.
