Designed as an installation for the ‘Interno’ exhibition at the Anna D’Ascanio’s gallery in Rome, the work consisted of six Kilim rugs from the artist’s home, laid on the ground one on top of another to simulate a random, unpreplanned arrangement, as if in the process of being moved. Everyday domestic objects became raw materials for art, aiming to ‘replace life by using it in its entirety, that is, poetically’.1 As Maurizio Calvesi writes of Mauri, ‘Art is his refuge, his home; exhibitions are his removals.’2 The work was alternatively displayed with three carpets instead of six.
