Picture composed of a half-length photograph of a woman whose face is covered by a screen-drawing, to which a black cardboard tube has been applied. Although the woman portrayed is actress/model Elsa Martinelli, Mauri titled the work Marilyn, referencing the celebrated American star Marilyn Monroe, dead for just two years at the time and already the quintessential pop icon, her name effectively representing all movie godesses. For greater insight into the concept of ‘schermo’ in Mauri’s work, see the introductory essays.
