A site-specific installation created for the ‘Akropolis’ group exhibition at the Teatro Fraschini in Pavia, Mauri’s work was set up in the space of the royal box in this Italian-style theatre. Hanging before the balcony, a piece of very light tulle bore a black inscription, ‘THE END’, at its centre: as in a Schermo (Screen), the cloth served to veil the view to the stage, introducing a threshold between the space of reality and fiction. Six seats provided for spectators were turned in the opposite direction from the stage, putting the audience in the foreground, rendering them the installation’s subject.
