In the ‘Ideological Section’ of the 10th Quadriennale d’Arte Moderna in Rome, Mauri presented his work Che cosa è il fascismo. Festa in onore del generale Ernst von Hussel di passaggio per Roma (inv. 3474) in installation form. A red carpet with a swastika on it was the centrepiece of the room for a performance of the same name presented two years earlier at the Studi Safa Palatino in Rome, using five speakers and five pairs of stage photographs perched on three-stepped stands built along the two side walls at a hall in the Palazzo delle Esposizioni. The loudspeakers broadcast the audio recorded during the performance. From a trestle table, Luce newsreels were projected onto a large screen located in an adjacent space, with the words ‘THE END’ at the centre. A valet stand on the threshold between the two rooms was adorned with a black ‘Giovane Italiana’ cape, accompanied by the sign ‘SARA LEVI Rome 1924, Dachau 1941’.
