NOTE:

Screen-drawing characterised by a black frame painted around the edges of a sheet of paper, defining a rectangular ‘field for projection’ within which three photographs and the word ‘Quaderno’ (Notebook) were transferred using the decalcomania technique; applied backwards, the word gives the work its title. A thin gilded band painted along the screen’s inner edges is reminiscent of the frame-like labels once affixed to school notebooks, which Mauri used in several other works in lieu of small screens (for example, inv. 227, 2275, 3248, 3717). For greater insight into the concept of ‘schermo’ in Mauri’s work, see the introductory essays.
