NOTE:

‘Second-generation’ Schermo (Screen) composed of white-painted canvas stretched over a projecting wooden frame, surrounded by a black frame without any glass. In the centre of the screen is the French inscription ‘FIN’ (THE END), a leitmotif in Mauri’s work and an indicator that a screening has just taken place. This work was one of four screens introducing the Luna (inv. 922) installation at the 1970 ‘Vitalità del Negativo’ (Vitality of the Negative) exhibition, using the word ‘end’ in Italian, English, German and French, as documented in Ugo Mulas’ photographs. For greater insight into the concept of ‘schermo’ in Mauri’s work, see the introductory essays.
