Conceived for the ‘Picnic o Il buon soldato’ exhibition-installation (inv. 527, 3526), Tavolo cappelli ufficiali was a counterbalance to Tavolino – elmetti (inv. 843). Here, the small, rough iron table is covered with a long blue cloth and instead of soldiers’ hard helmets, officers’ headgear – divorced from any practical need for protection and reduced to colourful fashion accessories – illuminated by a living-room lamp.
