‘Portable screen’ made of wood and canvas with a question and answer painted in black and red on it, as if distinct voices in dialogue with one another. The work is part of a series of ten roll-up screens that Mauri had made in 1993 (inv. 904), only two of which were accompanied by text (see also inv. 402). This work in particular introduces the theme of the ‘Aryan’ object that the artist developed two years later in the ‘Arierwiege’ exhibition, at which this schermo was displayed next to a couch on which the opening performance took place (inv. 1023).
1995, Rome, Galleria Sauro Bocchi, Arierwiege, 31 May – 30 June.
