A 1930s German radio, a Volksempfanger DKE38, literally ‘people’s receiver’, a device with a rather limited reception circuit designed to be affordable to the masses. It was displayed at the entrance to the ‘Istantanea di un duca morto’ exhibition-installation (inv. 654), transmitting white noise at varying volumes into the gallery rooms. It is well-known that this radio became a key instrument for Nazi propaganda, so much so that the DKE38 model was ironically nicknamed ‘Goebbels-Schnauze’, Goebbels’ snout.
