The phrase Convincimi della morte degli altri capisco solo la mia is airbrushed onto eighteen sheets of cotton paper that, each hung with two nails on two adjoining walls at the Fondazione Volume! in Rome, introduced the exhibition ‘Cielo vicino’ (Close Sky) opened just three days after Mauri’s brother Luciano died. The work, dedicated to him, seems to engage in dialogue with the epitaph engraved on Marcel Duchamp’s tomb in Rouen, ‘D’ailleurs, c’est toujours les autres qui meurent’ (After all, it is always the others who die), overturning its perspective.
